About the Artist

Ryan Moffett has been an art educator since 1997. He is currently teaching Ceramics, Sculpture, and AP Studio Art 3-Dimensional Design at Murray High School in Murray, Utah. In January 2013 he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. At that time, much of his artwork focused on his experiences with MS. His large-scale coil-built sculptures, inspired by ancient Cycladic art, as well as 20th century artists, Brancusi, Modigliani and Giacometti, have a meditative quality, making the pieces contemplative and spiritual. The inclusion of deteriorated and frayed electrical cords symbolizes the degenerative nature of the disease, for which there is no cure. Ultimately, his work addresses the peace and hope he has been blessed to discover throughout the process of learning about the disease and adjusting to its effects.

With his MS under control, he no longer focuses on that theme. He has maintained his stylistic influences from Cycladic art and other artists throughout history, but his subject matter now reflects rich life experiences we all have as humans.

Ryan graduated with a BFA in Ceramics from Utah State University in 1996 and a MA Ed. in Art Education from Brigham Young University in 2005. He currently resides in Murray.
